Oikocredit USA is currently seeking applicants for our San Francisco Outreach Coordinator position, to begin work in September 2011.
Oikocredit is one of the world’s largest sources of private funding tothe microfinance sector. We finance locally-based microfinance institutions, providecredit to trade cooperatives, fair trade organizations and small-to-mediumenterprises (SMEs) in the developing world. We have over $600 million inoutstanding loans. $30 million of this comes from investments made in the USA.
Withthese funds, our project partners dispense loans to the poor and disadvantaged,with a special emphasis on rural areas and women. In 2010, CGAP awarded us theprestigious “MIV ESG Award” recognizing the organization’s commitment tointegrating environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors into investmentdecisions.
Oikocreditoffers a dual return to our investors: financial and social. In addition toearning modest financial returns, investors are secure in the knowledge thattheir money is being used to fight poverty, promote fair trade and respect ourplanet’s natural resources.
Oikocredit’sWashington DC office is charged with attracting new investors, engaging withexisting investors, and educating the public about microcredit and globaleconomic development. The DC office does not disburse loans.
Position Summary:
OikocreditUSA seeks a candidate with strong relationship-building and persuasion skills.The ideal candidate will be a self-starter and able to work independently. Thiscandidate will also be relied upon to serve as the main point of contacts forkey events and outreach efforts in and around the Bay area. The successfulcandidate is expected to join team calls remotely and contribute to the developmentof new strategies that will deepen Oikocredit’s brand and outreach. Experiencein marketing or business development would be helpful.
Personsinterested in our Outreach Coordinator positions should:
- Be available to work from their homes
- Be able to take initiatives to contact churches, foundations, community groups in order to set up educational meetings with support from the national Oikocredit office in Washington, DC
The OutreachCoordinator reports to the Executive Director.
Key Responsibilities:
- Be able to coordinate visits to your city by national staff
- Be able to keep a database of contacts and networks
- Be committed to social and economic justice
- Be able to distribute Oikocredit literature and audio-visual materials to people and groups in your community with resources provided
- Have organizing skills and experience
- Share and report information with the Oikocredit national office
Technical Skills Preferred
- Generalcomputer literacy
- Comfortwith Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) are needed
- Experiencewith Salesforce or similar relationship management system
- Familiaritywith social media tools like FaceBook, LinkedIn, and Twitter
Position will be for 20hours per week at $20 per hour. Candidates will need to be living in the citywhere they work. Position may expand depending on performance.Applications/Resumes due by August 15, 2011.
