2 November 2012 – 14:20hrs | In the morning the Oikocredit stand was visited by two “bees” that toured around the expo area to learn more about all exhibitors.
And then it was time for the first official roadshow event, the workshop titled “Cooperativa Manduvirá: an inspirational Fairtrade organic co-operative from Paraquay”.

It was exactly noon as we rolled into the small town of Monteverde in Costa Rica. We had just spent the last hour of our 4-hour journey over rough, unpaved mountain roads snaking past breath-taking scenery. At 1,440 metres above sea level, Monteverde is home to a vibrant rainforest with tens of thousands of insect species and over 2,500 plant species. But I had not come for a guided tour of the famous Monteverde Rain Cloud forest reserve nor for the equally heralded canopy walks and horseback rides. I had come to visit Oikocredit partner Productores de Monteverde SA, a dairy company to find out more about Gouda production in the hinterlands of Costa Rica.

Today was a great day at work! I was privileged to travel with Tim Venables, one of my Oikocredit colleagues in Paraguay, to visit Manduvirá, a new cooperative partner, 70 kilometres outside Paraguay’s capital, Asunción. Manduvirá has an impressive history (founded in 1975) and a very promising future. The visit showed me once again what inspiration, perseverance, a vision, and a true cooperative – in every way – can accomplish.

The Study Tour is over. We said goodbye to the participants and to the Bulgarian Oikocredit team. They have done a great job by organizing this fantastic week where we got the chance to meet the clients, of many of them partners of Oikocredit for years.
