Oikocredit was created for those economically disadvantaged groups who need loans to expand their businesses or start activities that allow them to achieve a better life, but do not have access to the conventional financial institutions.

If you are part of a cooperative, a financial intermediary, a small or medium sized enterprise, a fair trade organization or a NGO, located in one of our region's focus countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay), fulfilling the criteria and with a business plan aligned with Oikocredit's ethics, you may qualify for a loan from Oikocredit. Oikocredit provides loans instead of grants, because we believe that loans are more effective for achieving economic productivity. While donations can generate dependence on the benefactor, loans create a real business partnership based on mutual respect.

If your project is financially feasible, a loan will stimulate the sustainable development of your community. But it is very important that the loan matches the needs of your project. If the loan exceeds your actual needs, it may represent a stone tied to your neck instead of a step towards a better future. This is why our regional office keeps a close follow-up of all the projects. Should any difficulty arise, the regional office will work with you to find a solution.
