Oikocredit East Africa gathered Tanzanian credit cooperative partners for a good governance workshop earlier this month.

The four-day workshop highlighted the importance of structured corporate governance for Savings and Credit Cooperatives (SACCOs), and included visits to Azania Bank and Tujijenge Microfinance Institution to see the importance of fair management within an organization.

The workshop programme aimed to encourage participants to reach sustainability goals through good governance and clearly defined roles and responsibilities for board members and management.

Tanzania country manager Deus Manyenye (pictured left) coordinated the workshop along with capacity building officer Elikanah Nganga. Mr Manyenye described the event as a success.

“In the middle of difficulties, lies opportunities, challenges related to poorgovernance can be turned into many opportunities, as long as leaders and board members are aware of good governance practices,” Mr Manyenye said.

The Oikocredit East Africa region hopes to conduct the workshop in other countries in the region.
