Oikocredit is one of the largest development financiers worldwide.  Established in 1975, Oikocredit believes that loans are a more effective instrument than grants in achieving economic productivity and self-reliance among financially marginalized people around the globe.

Oikocredit finances projects of groups that are in need of credit but are faced with difficulties in obtaining loans through standard financial institutions for the lack of collateral.  Oikocredit does not finance organizations, businesses, and projects which raise ethical objections, cause social conflict, or would cause serious damage to the environment.
