Saadhana - women empowerment at the grassroots
Microfinance institution Saadhana operates through women's centres in deprived districts of Andra Pradesh. Each centre comprises three women‘s groups of ten women each.They meet once a week with a field officer to pay their installment. When a woman first takes a loan, Saadhana gives her a four-day orientation on how to manage the loan and her small business.
There are several other microfinance institutions active in the area but the women prefer Saadhana, because it also provides them with life insurance and free access to a clinic.
