What is Social Performance?
Social performance is the translation of an institution's social goals into practice.
A solid social performance is the first step towards achieving a positive social impact and includes:
- reaching the target market
- responding to the needs of clients, their families, and communities and delivering high-quality and appropriate financial services
- ensuring responsibility toward employees, clients, the community and the environment
Why is social performance important?
- it assesses the double bottom line (social and financial return)
- it makes an institution accountable for its social obligations and objectives
- it enables an institution to evaluate which programs have a strong social focus, and prioritize or strengthen support to them accordingly
- it helps an MFI differentiate itself from others in an increasingly competitive market by attracting investors focused on social performance
